GPS in Education

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Students of all ages and backgrounds are becoming familiar with satellite positioning.  I think they are interested in the high tech aspect of digital programming and the invisible power of radio waves.  The idea that radio waves from different sources can be transmitted to a reciever to determine location is Star Wars like.

Many schools do not have the budget to provide multiple units for the students’ use.  I teach maps, compass use and navigation with GPS.   I have been the recipient of many educational grants that allow me to bring my unique programs into schools and community programs.

Search this site www.ultimatetreasurehunts.com and ask me how I can come to your group.

Phones and GPS

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

We are working with a company from France that has developed unique software for a Nokia phone.  www.incenteam.com facilitates corporate team building, as well.  Their devices have a screen that teams can view all of the other teams as well as the caches they are searching for.  We experienced it in Central Park earlier this year.  caches disppear as they are discovered and teams can ‘freeze’ another team by directing their device at them.

We were hoping to combine forces here in the US, but US cell phone data only services make the cost per unit intimidating.  The US cellular phone networking industryis still behind the global systems of Europe and Asia.

In the mean time, we are looking to discover a phone that will fit out GPS need without Christian Menard’s unique software.  www.thecellphonegps.com might have some hope for equipment.Treasure Hunting with GPS www.can-you-find-it.com

It’s been a while since I have paid attention to the blogging world.  I have to get into the habit of writing and posting in three different places, now.
