Our
program is based on the international sport of
orienteering. Hundreds of thousands of world class
athletes, weekend adventurists and amateurs of
all ages hit the trails and backwoods year round
in competitions large and small sponsored all
over the world. Players win by winding through
forests, traversing fields, slogging through swamps
and circumventing or, if strategy dictates, ascending
hills and mountains in order to reach hidden controls,
accumulate points and finish the course in the
fastest time.
The demands the sport of orienteering make, both
physical and mental, and its focus on individual
achievement draw to it a distinctive participant.
Years of international orienteering competition,
teaching, and event production inevitably led
CUFI founder, Deborah Humiston, to a conclusive
concept:
Take away orienteering’s inherently
rigorous and highly competitive physical demands
and apply its general elements to group focused
navigation challenges for all ages and abilities.
The goal being to enhance and develop individual
AND group decision-making skills, self-confidence,
communication, cooperation, and interpersonal
relations. All this while having fun.
And it works every time.
Can
You Find It challenges have been developed
by merging navigational challenges, problem-solving
activities and creative tasks utilizing cutting
edge handheld Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
Participants learn organizational business skills
from meaningful play, and foster a sense of team
work while utilizing high-tech navigation tools,
enjoying and learning about their surroundings
and benefiting from physical exercise.
The Challenges
1. Points of Interest - Challenge your
team to develop strategies, move through the landscape,
and acquire points and clues that will direct
you to the goal of finding the secret cache, which
varies depending on the landscape. Efficient communication,
recognition of strengths of individual team members,
and creative problem solving are required for
solving this puzzle.
2. Product Development Challenge
- The objective is to design and produce a new
product for the company and accompanying marketing
pitch which can include a jingle, press release,
TV commercial, multi media presentation…whatever
a team can dream up within a designated time frame.
The “winner” is determined based on creativity,
functionality and marketability. GPS systems and
custom maps lead teams to hidden items to be used
in the creation of their products and sales campaigns.
3. Mission Possible - The most
popular and flexible scheme, this puzzle can fit
every size group and outcome. The goal of the challenge
is to decode the briefcase’s combination lock to
discover the secret that will save the world.
4.
The Ultimate Map Game - Can-You-Find-It
will lead your groups through a complete crash
course in the navigation skills used for world
class competition. Forget about what the scouts
told you. There will be no bearings or declination
here. Decisions are based on determining where
your team is and what route they want to take
to reach the next control point.
5. Cell Phone Scramble - The
cell phone is their life line as teams receive
various data directing them to places and in ways
to accumulate points, outsmart their competition
and break the secret code.
6. Customize Your Needs - Coordinated
training conferences have built in themes and
outcomes. We work with you to structure a challenge
that will reinforce your objectives. Unique events
have been designed for night navigation, museums,
ocean cruises, Island mysteries and DaVinci Code
Puzzles. Tell us what you want to see and we'll
make it happen!
